There’s a little something magical across the cable ferry near Nelson BC. Harrop and Proctor are on the other side: it’s quiet, it’s beautiful, and the light is long down the lake. Samantha and Dimitri, who grew up there, are getting married in Samantha’s backyard this summer. For their engagement session, Samantha wore the dress her mom wore for her elopement in Rossland decades ago. We shot on the railroad tracks, which Samantha and Dimitri both said brought distinct childhood memories for them. And we went to the spot near where Dimitri asked Samantha to marry him.
Engagement sessions are mostly about us all getting comfortable together, you getting used to being photographed, and me learning about your relationship and how you communicate, all before the whirlwind of your wedding day. But they’re even more special if we can make images in a place that’s meaningful for you, much like Samantha and Dimitri’s childhood home.
