Being a family photographer in Nelson BC, I get to hang out with some amazing little humans and their parents. For this family photography session, I got to meet Brock! I’ll let the photos describe to you what he’s like, but one thing is certain–those blue eyes and curly blond hair are going to get him in trouble one day!
Brock’s little sister was only 6 weeks old when we photographed their family, so the session that best fit them was my “Quick and sometimes Dirty Session.” These sessions last up to an hour and I tend to encourage a little more posing than my usual Adventure or Day in the Life sessions. Reason being, we don’t have a lot of time before the little one gets real tired of all the commotion! When the tiny ones have a short attention span, direction helps get everyone’s face in the frame. For my documentary photography, we do no posing whatsoever. Every image is entirely real moment, real life–the stuff you’ll look back on in 20 years and realize that’s when they were becoming the person you now know so well.
During the Quick and Dirty session, I still strive to make documentary family photos. Real life is just so much more interesting than me telling people what to do. I shoot throughout the session between pose suggestions, and encourage families to tickle and play so that their real emotions and personalities shine through. This gives me lots of opportunities to observe how you react to each other, and how you demonstrate your emotions.
Family Photographer in Nelson BC
My approach to family photography is this: family photos should be less about the photo, more about the family. That’s why we run into burning houses to save our photos. Because we’re saving our family’s memory. While it’s one thing to look at a photo to see what you looked like, it’s entirely another to look at a photo and remember what you felt.
