Intimate Wedding in Nelson BC

When I met with Todd and J.J., it was quickly clear that their intimate wedding in Nelson BC was going to be a very special time.¬†Todd and J.J. are both social workers, and they met while she was doing her Masters. She was heading out from the office to go for a run. Todd was coming back from his, and after stopping to chat, agreed to meet up for a run together at another time. That they did… and they’ve been together ever since.

For Todd and J.J., their wedding was to be a celebration of their families coming together. Parents, siblings, close friends and their kids: J.J. has a daughter and two sons, Todd has a young daughter. They have family all over the world, and their intimate wedding meant to bring everyone together in a meaningful place. In J.J.’s words, “The most important thing to me is to bring everyone together. Your photos are genuine and vulnerable; my hope is to capture those moments.”

They rented a lakeside villa so all the guests could stay together, and I helped them choose a location that was accessible and showcased the beauty that surrounds Nelson. They chose the Vault, a private room at Lakeside Prestige Resort, for their reception. They had considered having their ceremony on the dock near the hotel, but it’s a busy area with motor boats on the water and tourists using the walking path. So I showed them a rock outcropping on Kootenay Lake just 10 minutes outside of town, and it was a perfect place for what they wanted.
